  • their legal rights and responsibilities when buying goods

  • their legal rights when buying services and the problems that can arise with doorstep sellers

  • resolving complaints effectively

Link Marker Begin the lesson by talking to students about what happens when they make a contract to buy goods and services. Explain the basic law of contract by discussing practical, everyday situations with the students. Consider what could happen if one party broke the contract.

Link MarkerLook at how legislation effects the contracts that we make when buying goods. Examine what extra protection we receive from the law and discuss the students legal rights in certain situations.

Link MarkerTalk to the students about buying services and look at the law for this area. Consider the problems that consumers could face and look at the dangers that exist from buying services from doorstep sellers.

Link MarkerLook at the procedure that students would need to follow to try and resolve any complaint they may have. Look at how they can take a case to Court if their problem remains unresolved.

Students will be able to recognise when they are entering into a contract and the legal obligations that arise from it.

Students will be able to understand their legal rights when buying goods and services and be aware of the most effective ways to deal with consumer problems.
